Making cocktails is fun. Washing cocktail shakers is not. Sometimes you can get away with a quick warm water rinse, but if you’ve used syrups or mashed fruit, you might need to do some scrubbing. Luckily, there are shakers out there that you can just throw in the dishwasher and let it do the trick! Here is a list of popular, durable, dishwasher safe cocktail shakers.

Most shakers that are glass and/or stainless steel are a-okay to go in the dishwasher. Where you need to be careful, though, is if your glass shaker has painted markings or a rubber ring in the lid. The dishwasher can cause the markings to fade and the rubber ring to warp over time. (Which, sadly, is what makes our very favorite shaker ineligible for this list.)

When browsing cocktail shakers, you might notice that parts of a shaker are often referred to as “tins.” But that’s just using “tin” as another word for container, not saying they’re actually made of tin. Most metal shakers now are made of stainless steel, which is good because tin is not dishwasher safe. Just wanted to throw that out there in case there’s any confusion.

Handy Dishwasher Safe Cocktail Shakers:

1. Mason Jar Style Shaker

This shaker is just made of glass (thick glass, at that) and a stainless steel twisting lid. It’s basically a mason jar but fashioned into a 21-ounce retro-style cocktail shaker. All parts are durable and dishwasher safe!

2. Boston Shaker Set – All Dishwasher Safe

As it’s all made of stainless steel, everything in this set is dishwasher safe – the shaker, the jigger, and the strainer. When your strainer is full of mashed fruit or mint pieces, you’ll be glad you don’t have to wash it by hand. Plus, the shaker and all the accessories fit neatly into one container so storing them isn’t a hassle.

Note that this set does have color coated options, like gold and copper, and those should be washed by hand to avoid scratching. But if you’re going with the good ol’ traditional stainless steel, you can throw that baby right in the dishwasher.

3. Boston Shaker (Just Remove the Sleeve)

Check it out: $15

This is a simple Boston cocktail shaker, but with a rubber sleeve so your hand doesn’t get ice-cold while shaking it. The glass is perfectly dishwasher safe, and once you slide off the rubber sleeve, the stainless steel part is as well.

4. Colorful, Insulated, Dishwasher Safe Cocktail Shakers

Yes, these beauties are dishwasher safe. They’re made of stainless steel with a slick, durable finish. Each shaker can hold 20 ounces, just the right amount for two cocktails. And you can pick from a ton of different colors!

When possible, it’s a good idea to put your cocktail shaker (or parts of it) on the top rack of the dishwasher. The heating element is on the bottom, so the higher position will mean the washing is a bit gentler on your shaker. This may not always be feasible though, especially with taller shakers, and that’s okay.
